Ceist:

287 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education if he will outline (a) the amount of moneys from the EC Structural Funds which have been spent under the aegis of his Department in (1) 1988, (2) 1989 and (3) 1990 and (b) the amount of matching funds which were spent by his Department for each year; if he will list the projects which were funded by such funds; if he will further outline the amount of funds which have been committed for 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The following table indicates (1) the current position regarding the amount of moneys from EC Structural Funds which have been spent under the aegis of my Department in respect of 1988, 1989 and 1990 and (2) the amount of matching funds which were spent by my Department for each year.

The following projects were aided by the EC Structural Funds during the three years in question: Tralee Regional Technical College, New College; Bolton Street College of Technology, Extension and Enhancement Works; Kevin Street College of Technology, Extension and Enhancement Works; National Institute of Higher Education, Limerick, Extension and Enhancement Works; University College, Dublin, School of Engineering Building; University College, Galway, Microbiology Building; University College, Cork, National Microelectronics Research Centre, Extension and Enhancement Works; Tallaght Regional Technical College, New College; College of Catering, Cathal Brugha Street, Extension and Enhancement Works; Carlow Regional Technical College, Extension and Enhancement Works; Galway Regional Technical College, Enhancement Works; Cork Regional Technical College, Enhancement Works; Athlone Regional Technical College, Extension and Enhancement Works; Dundalk Regional Technical College, Extension and Enhancement Works; Sligo Regional Technical College, Enhancement Works; Waterford Regional Technical College, Extension and Enhancement Works; Letterkenny Regional Technical College, Enhancement Works; and equipment upgrading in Dublin Institute of Technology, Regional Technical Colleges and the College of Art, Commerce and Technology, Limerick.
With regard to 1991, the position is that my Department have allocated £18 million towards expenditure on third level colleges in respect of Structural Fund-aided capital programmes which were announced in February 1990.
The position in relation to EC Structural Fund support for vocational training operations in the education sector is outlined in the following tabular statement.
