Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Olympic Council Funding.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

27 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the funding which the Government propose to provide to the Olympic Council of Ireland so as to ensure that the necessary funding is available to enable all of those who have attained the necessary standard to represent this State in the Olympic Games to be held in Barcelona in July 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The selection of sports persons to represent Ireland at the Olympic Games to be held in Barcelona in July 1992 is a matter solely for the Olympic Council of Ireland.

In the present Olympic cycle, my Department have allocated £1,510,000 to the Olympic Council of Ireland towards the cost of preparing and sending the Irish team to the 1992 games. The level of grant for 1992 has not yet been decided.
