Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grants for Special Schools.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

52 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education if, in conjunction with the health boards, he will make grants available for the provision of reading aids for the children who suffer from dyslexia.

The position is as outlined in my predecessor's reply to Question No. 254 of 22 October 1991. The operational costs of the two special schools for children with specific reading disability include the provision of reading aids.

In the case of children with less severe reading disabilities who attend their local national school with the support of a remedial teacher, a grant of £250 per remedial teacher is paid in the year of appointment and a grant of £125 each year thereafter for the purchase of test materials.
