Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Schools Accommodation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

71 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the total number of school places in respect of which he has received requests from school authorities for the provision of permanent classroom structures to date in (a) primary school (b) secondary schools; if he intends to provide for such requests in the current year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

277 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education (1) the number of school places in respect of which he has received a request from the authorities in County Kildare for the provision of extra second level facilities in the form of permanent classroom structures (2) the number of second level children currently accommodated in prefabricated structures in County Kildare (3) the location of such structures and (4) if he will outline any proposals to improve the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Question Nos. 71 and 277 together.

In view of the many hundreds of building projects handled by my Department it would be extremely time consuming to provide the information requested by the Deputy. It would necessitate the deployment of staff from other urgent duties and, in the circumstances, would not be justified.
