Vol. 413 No. 9

Written Answers. - Unallocated Tax Receipts.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

108 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a breakdown of the tax headings which yielded approximately £56 million and described as unallocated tax receipts in Iris Oifigiúil of 19 November 1991; and if he will outline the reasons the yield has increased from £14 million approximately over the corresponding figure for 1990.

The entry described as "unallocated tax receipts" is used for the temporary holding of Exchequer receipts of tax which cannot be fully processed immediately because of inadequate accounting data.

The amount of unallocated tax awaiting identification and transfer to a specific tax head will fluctuate during the year. The reasons for fluctuation relate to the ease of identification or otherwise of remittances at any one time. While the amount of unallocated tax at any one time consists predominantly of income tax and VAT it is not possible to give an analysis of the increase as between November 1990 and November 1991. The change does not represent an increase in yield.
