On Thursday 21 November 1991, following a request concerning details of resources available, the Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) at Shannon were informed by the Air Corps that the Dauphin helicopter located at Finner Camp, County Donegal, was immediately available for search and rescue purposes and that an Alouette III could be despatched at first light. The Marine Rescue Co—ordination Centre, decided to request the Sikorsky S61 based at Shannon to respond to the search and rescue incident in Dublin Bay and to allow the Dauphin to remain in Finner to cover the west coast.
On Friday, 22 November 1991, the MRCC requested that the Alouette III join the search at first light. The Alouette responded accordingly and a Dauphin helicopter also assisted in the operation.
