88 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline in respect of his Department (1) the number of Government contracts which are in force, (2) whether all contracts are renewed each year and (3) if all contracts are granted as a result of tendering to the most competitive estimate.
The placing of contracts by my Department is carried out in accordance with established Government contract procedures, including the invitation of competitive tenders and the acceptance of the most economically advantageous tender. Where the normal competitive tender procedure cannot be following for particular reasons, the approval of the Government Contracts Committee to proceed otherwise is obtained.
The other detailed information sought in the question is not readily available and its compilation would require that a disproportionate amount of staff resources be devoted to the task.
