Vol. 414 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (A) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ryan — the need for an all seater sports stadium and the apparent delay in providing same, particularly in the light of the recent directives by FIFA relating to the forthcoming world cup matches; (2) Deputy Ferris — the reports concerning a number of doctors with HIV and whether the Minister for Health has considered the urgent steps which need to be taken in order to allay public concern; (3) Deputy Belton—the development within the FCA whereby at present a 25 per cent reduction of Permanent Defence Force cadre is occurring, thus leaving the FCA seriously depleted of Permanent Army personnel; (4) Deputy de Rossa — the serious difficulties created for hospitals and patients as a result of the operation of the new rota system for accident and emergency cases, which has led to long waiting times at a number of hospitals and the closure, earlier this week, of the casualty unit at Beaumont Hospital; (5) Deputy Deenihan — the spiralling problem of youth homelessness in Ireland and the lack of emergency and long term accommodation.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: (1) Deputy Ferris; (2) Deputy Deenihan and (3) Deputy Belton.
