Vol. 414 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure on Carpets.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

68 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline (1) the amount of money spent on carpets by his Department for all Government Departments, (2) those who submitted the successful tenders and (3) the total amount for each successful tender for (a) 1988, (b) 1989, (c) 1990 and (d) to date in 1991; and if he will further outline the specifications which are used in accepting tender.

Due to the very broad terms of the Deputy's question I do not have the resources available to me in my Department to provide the extensive information requested in the time available. Furthermore, information at (3) could not be disclosed, as such disclosure would be a breach of confidentiality with the successful contractor(s) and would prejudice the future position of the Office of Public Works in these matters.

If the Deputy has specific queries on this subject, he may contact my Office directly and I will be happy to deal with them as quickly as possible.

In regard to specifications, these will normally vary depending on the requirements for each contract, with due regard for the relevant provisions of Government Contracts procedures.
