Vol. 414 No. 6

Written Answers. - Celbridge (Kildare) TV Reception.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

138 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he has satisfied himself with the quality and continuity of piped TV reception in Celbridge, County Kildare; if he has been assured that reception will remain constant and of high quality throughout the Christmas period; if he intends to take any action to ensure that the situation improves; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This is primarily a matter for the licensed cable operator who has assured me that the company have done their utmost to bring TV signals to a consistently good quality level in Celbridge.

My Department have received no recent reports from viewers in Celbridge of difficulties with the cable system. However, I am aware that co-channel interference caused by atmospheric conditions is currently affecting a number of cable systems. This problem is largely outside the control of cable operators.

The cable operator has also assured me that standby technical maintenance will be provided over the Christmas period.
