28 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Justice the outcome of the Garda investigation into the leaking of a confidential Garda document to the Provisional IRA in April 1991; if he will outline the steps which have been taken to deal with the findings of this investigation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that to date the investigation in question has been inconclusive in establishing how a copy of a Garda internal document came into the possession of unauthorised persons. I am also informed by the Garda authorities that, arising from this incident and the investigation into it, revised procedures have been put in place for the printing, distribution and security of these types of documents with a view to preventing a recurrence of an incident of this kind.
