Vol. 415 No. 3

Written Answers. - Milk Quotas.

John O'Leary

Ceist:

96 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will have arrangements made for farmers who availed of the milk cessation schemes 1987 to 1993 to have their milk quota restored in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under Community regulations, farmers who participated in a Community cessation scheme must give an undertaking to cease milk production completely for as long as the milk quota system exists.

There is at present before the EC Council of Ministers a proposal to extend the quota system for a further 8 year period up to March 2000. The restoration of quotas to farmers who participated in a Community cessation scheme can be considered only if the Council of Ministers decides not to extend the quota system.
