Ceist:108 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline the legislation planned in relation to pensions, and in particular, the relationship between occupational pensions and social welfare pensions.

Legislation governing social welfare pensions is contained in the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981. Legislation, to regulate occupational pension schemes is contained in the Pensions Act, 1990.
The question of the future relationship between occupational pensions and social welfare pensions will be addressed by the National Pensions Board in the context of their report on a new national pensions system. I expect to receive the board's recommendations shortly and, in line with the commitment given in theProgramme for Economic and Social Progress, I will be consulting with the main interests in the pensions area in relation to the implementation of the board's proposals.
