Vol. 415 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fire and Emergency Services Funding.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

138 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the services which were provided by his Department for the Exchequer outturn of £5 million in 1991 under the heading of fire and emergency services; and if he will further outline the changes which will take place under this heading in 1992 in view of the fact that the 1992 Estimate is £1 million less.

The annual capital allocation for fire and emergency services is to enable grants to be made to local authorities in respect of the construction or improvement of fire stations and the purchase of applicances, communications, emergency and other rescue equipment. Applications for grant approval are considered on their merits and in the light of priorities in relation to existing commitments. The 1991 capital provision for fire and emergency services was applied accordingly and the 1992 provision will be similarly applied.
