Vol. 415 No. 9

Written Answers. - Budgetary Allocations for Public Housing.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

180 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the amount of money provided for public housing in (a) County Cork, (b) Cork city and (c) to each urban district council in Cork county, for each of the years 1986 to 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter in the context of whether these allocations were sufficient for the housing needs of those areas.

I assume the question relates to the capital allocations for the provision of local authority dwellings. I refer to the replies to Questions No. 34 of 4 May 1989, No. 252 of 25 April 1990, No. 69 of 14 March 1991 and No. 129 of 19 November 1991 for information relating to the period 1986-1990.

The final allocations for 1991 to housing authorities in Cork are as follows:

Housing Authority

1991

£

Cork Corporation

1,249,000

Cork (North) County Council

1,139,000

Cork (South) County Council

603,000

Cork (West) County Council

221,250

Clonakilty Urban District Council

37,000

Cobh Urban District Council

199,100

Fermoy Urban District Council

47,000

Kinsale Urban District Council

121,600

Macroom Urban District Council

32,700

Mallow Urban District Council

157,000

Midleton Urban District Council

203,000

Skibbereen Urban District Council

57,000

Youghal Urban District Council

258,400

I am satisfied that the availability of houses through construction-acquisition, the occurrence of vacancies in the housing authorities' existing stock, the capital provision for the voluntary housing scheme and the various initiatives underA Plan for Social Housing, if developed to their full potential by the housing authorities, constitute a reasonable response to the housing needs in all areas.
