Vol. 416 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Jimmy Leonard — if the Minister for Agriculture and Food proposes to restructure county development teams to allow them to play a more effective role in administering integrated rural development programmes; (2) Deputy Therese Ahearn — the decision by the CPSU members not to co-operate with the implementation of the employment subsidy scheme, thereby putting at risk this employment initiative announced by the Minister for Finance in the budget; (3) Deputy John Ellis — the delay by the Office of Public Works in paying compensation to farmers affected by works on the Balinamore-Ballyconnell canal project; (4) Deputy John Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) — the delay in allowing work to commence on the sewerage scheme in Muine Bheag, County Carlow; (5) Deputy Dick Spring — the necessity of providing funding for the Ríocht athletic development project, Castleisland, County Kerry; (6) Deputy Eamon Gilmore — if the Minister for Industry and Commerce will take any action, under the Companies Act, to investigate the affairs of Fairford Films Ltd., Dún Laoghaire, which has closed with the loss of 31 jobs; (7) Deputy Mervyn Taylor — the report of motor insurance costs and incidental matters issued by the Irish Insurance Federation on 24 February, 1992 on which the Minister for Industry and Commerce made a statement; (8) Deputy Nuala Fennell — if the Minister for Health will indicate his Department's policy on breast implants in view of the US Food and Drug Administration's findings; (9) Deputy Bill Cotter — the flooding of houses in the Miltown area of Monaghan town and the decision by the Office of Public Works that responsibility for remedial works was the responsibility of Monaghan County Council; (10) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan — the dramatic increase in housing subsidies paid by the Southern Health Board last year; (11) Deputy Michael Ferris — the serious imposition on local authority funding caused by the operation of the Abattoirs Act, 1988, which set down charges which are now out of date, (12) Deputy Pat Rabbitte — the announcement by the Minister for Health to scale back the proposed Tallaght Regional Hospital to a 350-bed unit and the implications of this decision for the catchment area to be served by the hospital; (13) Deputy Roger Garland — the serious danger to the ecology of the Burren region due to the proposed interpretative centre and the failure by the Minister to respond to local, national and international representations to have this centre resited.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Fennell, Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) and Spring.
