Vol. 416 No. 8

Written Answers. - Driving Testers.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

117 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline, (a) the number of driving testers who are presently working for his Department throughout the country in the test centres and (b) the courses and training which these testers undergo before undertaking this work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The present strength of the driver testing corps is 63 testers, six supervisory testers and a chief tester. Newly recruited testers are given a six weeks intensive training course which enables them to carry out tests for category B vehicles i.e. cars and light commercial vehicles. Additional training of between three and five weeks duration is provided to bring testers up to the standard required for testing for the other categories of vehicles including trucks, buses and motor cycles.
