Vol. 416 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Westmeath Areas Designation.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

130 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if the area of Harristown, Kinnegad and surrounding rural areas will be included in the submission for extension to the least severely handicapped areas of the disadvantaged areas scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I can confirm that the townland of Harristown in the district electoral division of Ballyboggan, County Meath and the entire district electoral division of Kinnegad, County Westmeath are included in the list of areas currently being surveyed by departmental inspectors. When the processing of all survey data is completed in the autumn, the appeals panel will be in a position to examine the survey results and make recommendations to my Department as to the areas to be included in a submission to Brussels. The final decision on areas to be classified as disadvantaged rests with the EC Commission.
