Details of prosecutions under the Litter Act, 1982, are set out below. Information in respect of 1991 is not yet available in my Department.
As I have previously stated, litter is the most obvious and persistent of our environmental problems. I am at present considering a number of initiatives to improve the situation, including a national mixed-media campaign to support and complement clean-up activities organised by local authorities and community groups.
