Vol. 417 No. 6

Written Answers. - Bord Pleanála Appeals Fees.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

36 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment the reason he has decided to increase fees for third party appellants to An Bord Pleanála; the amount received in fees for 1991 and the projected increase which is expected in 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ceist:

144 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment if he will set out the amount which has been received by An Board Pleanála in respect of fees from third party appellants for each of the statutory planning authority areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 36 and 144 together.

An Bord Pleanála does not keep a separate record of fee income from third party appellants either globally or by reference to planning authority areas.

The increase in fees payable to An Bord Pleanála is designed to ensure that such fees meet a reasonable part of the costs of the appeal system. Total fee income received by the board in 1991 was £230,000 and an increase in the region of £200,000 is expected in 1992. Despite this increase, projected fee income for 1992 will represent only about 20 per cent of the overall operating costs of the board.
