124 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Finance if he will meet a delegation from the local authorities in County Monaghan, as requested by them, to discuss the deployment of Customs staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The Revenue Commissioners have completed a review for the purpose of identifying, on the basis of the most up-to-date information available, the likely impact of the completion of the Internal Market on Customs and Excise staffing levels, and to consider revised organisational structures appropriate to the post-1992 environment. As I indicated in my oral reply of 3 March, this report is under active negotiation with the unions representing the staff concerned. As these discussions are taking place under the Civil Service Scheme of Conciliation and Arbitration, it would not be appropriate for me to meet a delegation from the local authorities in these circumstances.
