Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - Cavan-Monaghan Further Education Centre.

James Leonard

Ceist:

131 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to provide a centre of further education in the Cavan/Monaghan area in order to develop a range of post second level education and training programmes, geared to local industry and services and enterprise development as proposed in the National Development Plan 1989-93, for the north west sub-region in view of the established need for skilled workers in industry at present.

I have no plans at present for the provision of an additional centre of further education in the Cavan-Monaghan area. Training to meet the skill needs of the industry and services sectors is available for the north west sub-region through the provision of vocational preparation and training programmes in second level schools and through national certificate and diploma level courses in the regional technical colleges in Letterkenny, Sligo, Athlone and Dundalk. Cavan Vocational Education Committee is also providing the first year of the national certificate in business studies on a pilot basis linked with Athlone RTC.
