Vol. 417 No. 7

Written Answers. - Vaccination Service.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

81 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Health if the 3 in 1 vaccination is covered under the GMS contract.

The three in one vaccination is not covered by general practitioners under the General Medical Services contract.

Under section 58 of the Health Act, 1970, health boards are required to make available, without charge, a general practitioner medical and surgical service for persons with full eligibility. This service is provided for medical card holders by general practitioners who hold contracts with the health boards under the General Medical Services scheme.
The three in one vaccination which is available on a voluntary basis is provided under a different scheme by health boards to a broader catchment population than those covered by medical cards and vaccinations are provided free of charge at health board clinics.
