Vol. 417 No. 9
137 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the number of gardaí in Cork city; the way in which this compares with the position five years ago; and whether he has any plans to increase the numbers in 1992.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that the overall Garda strength at stations in Cork city on 31 January 1992 was 534. The equivalent strength on 31 December 1986 was 571. I am also informed that an assistant commissioner is currently compiling a report of his recent review of manpower requirements in Cork city and that the Garda authorities will be guided by this report in determining appropriate manning levels in the city.
