Ceist:203 Mr. Wyse asked the Minister for Education the number of temporary teachers employed in Cork city and county for the current year and for the years 1989-90-91.
Written Answers. - Temporary Teacher Numbers.
There are currently 158 temporary teachers employed for the full school year in primary schools in Cork city and county. These are teachers who have been employed to cover for teachers on career breaks, special leave without pay and extended unpaid maternity leave. It is estimated that a further 70 temporary teachers are employed for short periods in the current school year. The number of teachers employed in a temporary capacity for previous years is not available.
The information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in relation to post-primary schools.
