Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - Community Care Programme.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

221 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the expenditure for 1991 for home help in the community care budget for the Mid-Western Health Board area and the projected expenditure for 1992 for home help; the number who were eligible for home help in 1991; the number eligible in 1992; the number of participants who now have a reduced duration of assistance; the number who have had it discontinued; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The expenditure on the home help service in the community care budget for the Mid-Western Health Board area in 1991 was £1,418,237. The projected expenditure by the board for 1992 is £1,300,000. The number of recipients in 1991 was 1,398. It is not possible to say exactly how many people will benefit in 1992 but every effort will be made to serve the greatest possible number. It is not possible at this stage for the board to be precise on the other details requested by the Deputy as the matter is still being evaluated at local level.

The following table shows the substantial development of the home help service in the Mid-Western Health Board area over the past five years:—
