Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - Blood Pressure Measuring Devices.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

229 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to implement new guidelines on safety in relation to accuracy in blood pressure measuring devices which can be bought by the public from local pharmacies, many of which are not up to the standards required.

This matter is being examined at present by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (Eolas) which is represented on the Working Group of the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) which is preparing European Standards for Sphygmomanometers. I understand that the working group is drawing up standards which will apply to all blood pressure measurement devices.
