22 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Education if he will outline his views in relation to a submission he recently received on the possibility of establishing a vocational training centre for people with a mental handicap on a university campus, to be fully integrated into the life of the university, and if he will make a statement on the matter.
My Department are at present considering the proposal which was received recently to establish a vocational training centre for people with a mental handicap on a university campus. Since the responsibility for funding such vocational training centres is shared between the Departments of Health and Education, it will be necessary to conduct discussions with those Departments and with the university authorities before reaching a decision.
