Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - School Principals' Role.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

38 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the recent document produced by the INTO on the role of the principal; if he will outline his response to the issues raised in the document and the plans he has to ease the workload on principals; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The INTO review of the role of the principal teacher is a timely and valuable document which complements the reports of the Review Body on the Primary Curriculum and the Primary Education Review Body. The recommendations of the INTO review and of the forementioned reports cover a wide range of issues relevant to the role of the principal teacher in the primary school. All the issues raised will be discussed in the context of proposals in the Green Paper on Education which will be published shortly.
