Michael Ferris

Ceist:

56 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Education when the programme for school caretakers/clerical assistants as outlined in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress will be introduced, if he will outline the policy of his Department in relation to this programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

211 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education when he expects to introduce caretaking and clerical services for first and second level schools as agreed under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 56 and 211 together.

A provision of £500,000, has been made available in the 1992 Estimates for the introduction of a phased programme to expand the provison for caretaking and clerical services in national schools with 100 pupils upwards and second level schools with 200 pupils upwards. The scheme will be operative as from September 1992 and the details are being drawn up by my Department at present.
