Vol. 417 No. 9

Written Answers. - Extension of Visiting Teacher Service.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

87 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education if he will review his proposals to provide visiting teachers for children with a disability in a manner that will preserve the quality of existing visiting teacher services for deaf children.

The proposals formulated by my Department for the expansion of the visiting teacher service took into account such factors as the workload and geographical areas of responsibility of serving visiting teachers so as to ensure no diminution of the existing service.

I consider that these proposals provide an invaluable opportunity to improve the educational supports for children with disabilities who are attending their local national schools. My Department will pursue with the interests concerned the measures which are considered essential to ensure that the service for deaf children is not adversely affected.
