A Cheann Comhairle I wish to give you notice of my intention to raise an urgent matter requiring immediate attention under Standing Order 30 at the commencement of public business. The matter I wish to raise is as follows:
This House views with extreme concern the latest controversy to affect the neurosurgery department at Beaumont Hospital which has greatly damaged the morale and reputation of the hospital. The House is concerned that an independent report covering aspects of the controversy prepared by a widely respected consultant from the University of Nottingham has been available to the Medical Council for several weeks and has not been acted upon.
Dáil Éireann calls on the Minister for Health to take steps immediately to ensure that all inquiries in this matter take place in public and that the independent report available on these issues is examined immediately by the appropriate authorities.
