John Bruton

Ceist:

52 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Defence if discussions have taken place over the last ten days in his Department regarding the placement of Irish troops on a UN mission in Yugoslavia.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 42, 43 and 52 together.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations requested the Irish Government to provide four military officers for service with the United Nations Protection Force in Yugoslavia (UNPROFOR). No request for non-commissioned personnel was received.

Four Irish officers took up duty as observers with UNPROFOR on 28 March 1992.
