The recommendations of the Price Waterhouse report on Improving the Performance of Irish Tourism published in September 1987 were amongst a large number of factors taken into consideration by Government in devising their five year strategy for Irish tourism set out in the EC joint funded Operational Programme for Tourism (1989-93).
The Government had particular regard to recommendations by Price Waterhouse in areas such as policy formulation, access, marketing and product development.
Since 1988, in line with Government targets, visitor numbers have increased by 52 per cent; overseas revenue has increased to over £1 billion; and an additional 19,000 jobs have been created in the economy.
