Vol. 418 No. 2

Written Answers. - Agricultural Co-ops.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

39 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Finance if, in connection with his budget announcement on CPT for agricultural co-operatives, he took into account the vast differences in turnover and profit of the small co-ops in the west and the larger co-ops in other parts of the country; and if he has any plans to make allowances for this in the Finance Bill.

I announced in the budget that the tax exemption for co-operatives will be abolished from 1 April 1992. Since the announcement, I have received representations from the co-operative sector, some of which have raised the question of the position of the smaller co-operatives. As is normally the case, these representations are being examined. As the Deputy will appreciate, I do not intend to anticipate the Finance Bill.
