Vol. 418 No. 2

Written Answers. - Geriatric Hospitals Statistics.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

66 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Health the number of patients which are in St. Ita's Geriatric Hospital, Newcastle West, and St. Camillus Geriatric Hospital, Limerick; whether there is further provision for extra accommodation in these hospitals; the number of patients who are awaiting admission; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Mid-Western Health Board inform me that there are 269 patients in St. Camillus's Hospital. Six people are currently awaiting admission from acute hospitals in the area. The extra accommodation available in St. Camillus is earmarked for the development of a service for patients suffering from dementia.

Regarding St. Ita's Hospital there are 137 patients in the hospital with a further three patients awaiting admission to the rehabilitation unit. The board state that there is no provision for extra accommodation in St. Ita's as all available space is being utilised.
