Vol. 418 No. 2

Written Answers. - Redevelopment Proposals.

Mary Flaherty

Ceist:

97 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in sanctioning the refurbishment of Avila Park, Finglas, Dublin 11; if he will ensure that the redevelopment is comprehensive; whether it will include, (a) the replacement of the existing dangerous wooden chalets, (b) the construction of the three new dwellings, (c) the redesign of the substandard sloped roof dwellings and (d) the commencement of the community buildings; and if he will further outline the reason for the delay in sanctioning the redevelopment of the Dunsink Lane halting site.

The redevelopment proposals submitted by Dublin Corporation for the accommodation of travellers at the Avila Park housing scheme consist of the provision of ten new bungalows, the improvement of ten existing bungalows, the provision of a community centre and the upgrading of services in the scheme. It is a matter for the corporation to nominate within their allocation of "starts" for the year which projects they will undertake. The corporation have not nominated the scheme at Avila Park for commencement in 1992. Consequently the issue of sanction at this stage does not arise.

There has been no avoidable delay in dealing with the corporation's proposal for the redevelopment of the caravan park for travellers at Dunsink Lane. The proposed major redevelopment is under active consideration in my Department and the corporation will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
