Vol. 418 No. 4

Written Answers. - AIDS Patients.

Roger T. Garland

Ceist:

138 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the envisaged 200 extra AIDS cases this year, he will outline the measures he has in place for these patients; whether he is giving consideration to alternative holistic treatments; and if he has given due consideration to this matter.

As I have outlined in recent replies to questions with regard to services for persons suffering from AIDS the National AIDS Strategy Committee is currently considering the appropriate response to deal with various issues in this area. The committee is working through four subcommittees one of which is specifically concerned with the care and management of persons with AIDS/HIV. I would expect to have an interim report on this and other issues for consideration at the next meeting of the committee in mid-April.

In the meantime, as I have already indicated, my Department has reached agreement with St. James's Hospital on a number of measures which will improve the present services for HIV/AIDS patients at that hospital.
