Vol. 418 No. 4

Written Answers. - Patient Admission Cancellation.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

154 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the reason an appointment for treatment in the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7, on 23 March 1992 for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 was cancelled by telephone on 20 March 1992 and rescheduled for 25 May; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this patient is in considerable pain and that she has been greatly embarrassed because of the fact that she had organised with her employer to take appropriate measures to arrange to have her work carried out while she was incapacitated and that these measures will now have to be reorganised to cater for her convalescence following her treatment on 25 May; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have made inquiries of the Matter Hospital and they informed me that the person concerned was scheduled for admission to the hospital on 23 March 1992. Due to the number of emergency admissions to the hospital at that time, it was not possible to admit this patient as scheduled and a new admission date for 25 May 1992 was arranged. However, due to a cancellation the person concerned was admitted on 31 March 1992 for treatment.
