Ceist:247 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Labour if he will make representations to FÁS to ensure that they continue their sponsorship of apprentices for 1992.
Written Answers. - FÁS Apprentices Sponsorship.
FÁS will in 1993 implement the revised apprenticeship system which has been agreed in the context of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress. As such, existing arrangements will continue with regard to intake of apprentices in 1992.
I would remind the Deputy that primary responsibility for the recruitment of apprentices rests with employers. It has however, been the practice for FÁS to sponsor a number of apprentices to meet any shortfall due to unexpected increased demand for skilled persons from existing or new employers.
