Vol. 418 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tallaght Two Case.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

2 Mr. Taylor asked the Taoiseach if, in view of his reply to a parliamentary question on 4 March concerning the Tallaght Two to the effect that the report would be finalised in two weeks he will make a statement outlining the reason for the delay; when the report will be available; and if he will make a statement generally on the matter.

As I informed the Deputy on 4 March the Attorney General had expected that his examination of this case would have been completed within the following two weeks. The Attorney General informs me that in the event this has not proved possible because of the other matters of urgent public importance which he has been obliged to deal with during that time and since. However, he is hopeful that he will be in a position to complete his examination very shortly.

Will the Taoiseach ensure in the public interest and in the interests of the Tallaght Two that there will be no further delay? This matter has been pending for a long time and it is unsatisfactory in the public eye. Would the Taoiseach assure the House that when the report comes to hand it will be immediately published?

The Deputy is entitled to expect a response but I hope he will understand that in the past couple of weeks the Attorney General's office has been under severe pressure with regard to certain matters of public importance. They have given me an assurance regarding production of the report and I will keep the pressure on them to get the report out as soon as possible.

Will it be published?

Yes, when we get it.
