52 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Marine if he has had any further discussions or correspondence with angling groups or clubs; if he has satisfied himself that the legislation governing such co-ops can be introduced without any problems; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Since becoming Minister for the Marine I have familiarised myself with the background to the enactment of the Fisheries (Amendment) Act, 1991, providing for the establishment of trout and coarse fishery co-operative societies. We now have in place the legal framework to ensure a workable and effective system to assist in the development of our trout and coarse fisheries.
I am pleased to be able to say that most of the difficult tasks associated with establishing the societies have been already carried out and I expect to be in a position shortly to establish them.
