Vol. 419 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dundalk Accommodation.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

72 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the attempts to locate appropriate office accommodation in Dundalk which are being made by his Department in order to accommodate the new blocks of work for Dundalk as recently announced by him to alleviate job losses in Customs and Excise in the area with the advent of 1992; his views on whether these new blocks of works could be situated in the new proposed decentralised offices to Dundalk; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

77 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider the siting of the proposed decentralised offices for Dundalk on the site of the Newry Road Customs and Excise station which will be vacant when the full implementation of the Single Market takes place in 1993; which site will be surplus to requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 72 and 77 together.

The question of how best to meet the accommodation needs of Civil Service staff in Dundalk is being examined by the Office of Public Works in the context of the decentralisation programme and the EC Single Market. The examination, which will be completed as soon as possible after receipt of the detailed requirements of the Revenue Commissioners, will take account of any possibility of using the site of the Newry Road Customs and Excise station.
