154 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health the proposals, if any, his Department have to make funds available to the Western Health Board for the opening of the geriatric unit at Merlin Park Hospital, Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
From their share of last year's special budget application for the elderly, the Western Health Board have been able to plan the provision of geriatric assessment and long-stay beds at Merlin Park Hospital, Galway. Contractors are just finishing some upgrading and refurbishment work on existing buildings and the Western Health Board inform me that they expect to open the new Unit not later than 1 July this year.
