Vol. 419 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

174 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the total funding awarded by his Department from the proceeds of the national lottery each year to date; when he intends to make such funds available; the expected role of the local authorities in the current year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The following amounts from the proceeds of the national lottery have been paid by my Department:

£

1987

350,000

1988

6,122,795

1989

5,335,678

1990

1,866,758

1991

7,536,152

Payments on foot of allocations made from national lottery funds are made according as work is carried out on individual projects and local authorities submit the necessary requests for payment to my Department.
In relation to amenity projects and recreational facilities and the role of the local authorities, I refer the Deputy to the reply to Questions Nos. 3 and 28 of 23 October 1991. As regards the other services funded by my Department from the proceeds of the national lottery (communal facilities in voluntary housing schemes, library service and swimming pools), there is no change in the role of local authorities in 1992 as compared with earlier years.
