Vol. 419 No. 5

Written Answers. - Suckler Cow Grants Eligibility.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

214 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he considers it extremely harsh on small milk producers to include leased quota when determining eligibility for suckler cow grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Since leases of milk quotas between farmers must be for a minimum of 3 years it is not unreasonable to include leased quotas when determining eligibility for suckler cow grants for small-scale milk producers.

Only quota leased at 1 April of any year is taken into account when determining eligibility for the EC suckler cow scheme for that year. As a result temporary leases of quotas arranged by co-operatives and dairies which are made after 1 April are not taken into account when determining eligibility for the EC suckler cow scheme.
