Vol. 419 No. 5

Written Answers. - Arklow (Wicklow) By-pass.

Joe Jacob

Ceist:

62 Mr. Jacob asked the Minister for the Environment the up-to-date situation regarding the proposed Arklow by-pass on the Euro-route to Rosslare, County Wexford; the timetable for the carrying out of this work; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Wicklow County Council have appointed consultants to prepare a preliminary Environmental Impact Statement for a number of possible routes for the Arklow by-pass and a full Environmental Impact Statement for the preferred route. Subject to the outcome of the Environmental Impact Assessment and the purchase of necessary land, the best estimate is for a start date of late 1993 or early 1994, with a construction period of three to four years.

In view of the quasi-judicial role I am required to exercise in relation to the scheme, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further in the matter.
