Vol. 420 No. 4

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payment.

Mary Flaherty

Ceist:

162 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Labour the reason for the delay in paying statutory redundancy to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11.

The person concerned was awarded a redundancy lump sum under the Redundancy Payments Acts, 1967 to 1991 by the Employment Appeals Tribunal on 25 February 1992. When the person concerned applied to my Department on 23 March 1992 for payment of his statutory redundancy lump sum entitlement from the Social Insurance Fund enclosing a copy of the Tribunal order in his case, my Department discovered an error in the order and was obliged to seek an amending order from the Tribunal. This was received by my Department on 17 April 1992 and the statutory redundancy lump sum entitlement of the person concerned is now ready for collection from the Redundancy Payments Section of my Department which he should contact regarding arrangements for collection.

It will be noted that the average time-frame for the processing of applications for payment of statutory redundancy lump sums from the Social Insurance Fund is four to six weeks which was complied with in this case given that the amended Tribunal order was received by my Department in mid-April.
