Vol. 420 No. 4

Adjournment Debate Matters.

The Ceann Comhairle wishes to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Laurence Kelly — the proposal by Cork County Council to sell a portion of land at Gurteenard, Kanturk, County Cork, which costs approximately £24,000, for the nominal sum of £1,000 to a private individual; and if he will investigate the position; (2) Deputy Michael Lowry — the present position regarding mining operations in Tipperary north; (3) Deputy John O'Donoghue — the decision by Aer Rianta to grant a licence to First Rate Bureau De Change, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank of Ireland, to issue tourist VAT refunds via bank outlets at airports thereby assisting it to create a dominant positon in the market place to the detriment of the Irish tourism industry and employment in Killorglin, County Kerry and Spiddal, County Galway; (4) Deputy Michael Moynihan — the unreasonable delay on the part of the Department of Education in giving approval for the erection of a new primary school at Lispole, County Kerry; (5) Deputy Mary Flaherty — the crisis in funding of the home help service in the Ballymun area which has resulted in no new referrals being accepted, a waiting list for service and the collapse of the whole service by October/November if the crisis is unresolved; (6) Deputy Alan Shatter — the report of Mountjoy Visiting Committee, published today, regarding the conditions in Mountjoy Prison; (7) Deputy Nora Owen — the provision of the much needed new health centre in Swords, County Dublin; (8) Deputy Michael Finucane — whether the Minister for Finance is aware that, as a result of the postal strike income tax and VAT refunds have to be collected from the Dublin offices and whether it can be arranged that the cheques be sent to regional offices to prevent hardship and inconvenience to those concerned; (9) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan — the serious situation in the Lebanon in which Irish troops were in danger due to Isreali attacks; (10) Deputy Pat Lee — the serious financial problems that the 2,500 employees (and their immediate families) who are not in dispute with An Post have because of the suspension of the payroll staff by An Post management.

An Ceann Comhairle has selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies G. O'Sullivan, Shatter and O'Donoghue.
