Vol. 420 No. 9

Written Answers. - Third Level Education Application.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

115 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if he will review the request of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7, who is permanently resident here and is married to an Irish citizen, to attend third level education.

The admission of a student to a third level institution in this country is a matter for the institution concerned in accordance with its general admission requirements and requirements for admission to the individual courses.

The agreed position regarding payment of third level fees is as follows:

(a) One level of fees applies to those students who are EC citizens and who have received their full-time post-primary education within the EC for three of the five years immediately prior to College entry.

(b) Persons who do not satisfy those requirements are liable for fees at the higher non-EC rate.

This is the agreed position not just in Ireland but throughout the EC.

I assume from the details supplied that the person in question is liable for the payment of fees at the higher rate.
